I like my sextiles more than I used to. My chart is full of them.
The common wisdom goes that trines are “ease” and “flow” but can also make a person lazy and/or ungrateful.
Have you noticed this in yourself or others?
And the sextile supposedly takes a little bit of work but good will come.
I’ve noticed that by transit, trines are pretty powerful and because my chart has so few of them, I can’t help but notice. And I’d like to think that the “good transits” never quite leave. That they set in motion US, arms open, able to receive better.

I was chatting with Leora from Astrolome and she asked me how I knew when to follow my emotions or when to follow my chart. I thought it was a great question.
As a water sign, Cancer, of course I’m going to say never deny your emotions. And, actually, never deny your element. Are you fire? You will be inspired. Are you Air? You need to think. Are you earth? Step outside. And water feels, water needs to feel.
But if I followed my emotions, my moods, 100% of the time? I’d be dead. I’d have walked in front of that speeding #4 train long ago instead of sitting here, writing you now.
Feelings change, moods pass. We grow. See, I’ve been there. I’ve been in that dark place.
So, my answer is: BOTH. Listen to your emotions and to your chart. And they may be telling you the same thing. But not always.
I believe with all my heart in following the trajectory of the North Node and in following your trines and figuring out your squares so they heal and not hurt and tweaking your sextiles to let the good in and your oppositions? Well, how do you win friends and influence people? That’s the lesson of the opposition: the other.
Study astrology for self-empowerment. Self-mastery. Study astrology so you can live your best life, as Oprah says. Ever seen Oprah’s chart? Take a look some time.
Another thing though besides emotion and besides the chart, but related to both but its own entity is instinct, which is probably a combination of emotions and chart and raw guidance, spirit guidance, which really is YOU, your higher self. Your higher self on steroids
Oooh and ahhhVenus is getting closer and closer. To what? To squaring Saturn! Cancer and Libra square each other. Just like Cancer and Aries square each other. The square is an aspect of “internal tension.” The disease is within! What is that you say? Your squares are not diseased? Yes, I know, I know. I’m just feeling a little punchy. The long summer days are getting shorter, but they still feel long to me
The square is an ache in your being. A pain in your tuchas. You don’t know what to do about it. But you have to figure out what to do about it. Or else.
Squares make us feel restless. They push us. We want to take action. We want to solve problems. We want to… fix. A woman without a fix for her squares is an unhappy woman indeed.
Different from oppositions though, which come from without, not from within. With an opposition, someone is coming at you, friend or foe. With a square? Call it the friendship aspect. Solving a square is you making friends with you. Sound promising?
So in the sky today, fair Venus is fixing to square unfair Saturn. Cancer is emotional. Capricorn keeps it in. And what’s more is that fair Venus is also opposing transiting Pluto in Capricorn. See how this is working? The double energy? The double energy of limitation, of being held in, of commitment, containment. Without Saturn, we wouldn’t go the distance.
Now, I take this all awfully personally because I have Venus square Saturn in my natal chart. So when this aspect fires up in the sky? It’s like my heart on a spit.
You know what else? Saturn is cold. He coldly removes what needs to be removed. I know Pluto is the surgeon but we can’t ignore Saturn’s precision. They both take away.
So what’s the antidote? I’ll tell you what it is for me: I want to go deep. I want to sink into this Scorpio Moon which is just about to conjunct my Neptune. It’s trining my Cancer and sextiling my Virgo Moon Pluto.
So I was talking to my boyfriend and I was remembering that my natal Uranus trines his Venus, exact I think. And I said to him, “Venus trine Uranus! Your love shocks me.” It’s a good shock though. It’s a trine. But a shock all the same. Shockingly good. Shockingly loving. Loving the shocks. Whatever. Electric Luv.
And then he said that he was like a little kid with a crush. That he liked shocking me.
And then a light went off in my head and this light also spoke. The light said tome: DUH. And I said to myself, and to him, I am DUMB about the Penis People. Um, was dumb.
Freud asked “What do women want?” But I have had to learn what do men want. Something so simple, as basic as a boy with a crush on a girl…
Give me 12th House issues? Got it. Give me Venus Saturn? Got it. Venus Neptune? That too. The agony and the ecstasy and the obsession? Been there. Yep. Hand me your tired, your weary, your emotionally spent, your dark night of the soul. I’ve walked in those shoes. But this? This pure feeling? So sweet and childlike?
Let me tell you: Moon Pluto people are not normal. We did not have normal lives. Crushes? Childhood? Was there a childhood? There was not a childhood. I have so many sextiles in my chart that I wonder if the chart looks as dark as it was, as it is, growing up. I wonder this.
So here I am, a grown woman needing a code-breaking and I’m grateful my boyfriend (such a silly word but it makes me smile inside) can translate for me when he realizes that’s the problem.
I am getting less dumb about the Penis People. Are you?
The 4th House is our home, and half of the parental axis. The 3rd is our short trips. The 12th is our cloister, who we are when we’re alone. The 1st is our body. Each house in the wheel is a place.
Where do you find yourself the most? Can you see it in your chart? The astrology of place is the astrology of inside and outside, of sun and moon, of the every day and the dark night of the soul.
Do you live in your mind? Do you live in the world?
Today, I found myself in a classic New York City diner on the West Side. I ordered my breakfast and a cup of coffee. Half and half please. The diner is the City Life home away from home. My food came. It was delicious. No, no more coffee. I’m fine, thanks. I don’t live near this diner, but they know me. An ex boyfriend and I used to come here once a week at least, cuddle up in a booth. He never wanted to taste my food. Was that a sign? That relationship has changed to friendship now, but the diner remains the same. Same weekly specials, same dependable food, same big plates.
What is the astrology of being a regular? What is the astrology of a good hot cup of coffee? What is the astrology of the counter, the waiter who remembers you, the little mints by the register, the clean, empty bathroom?
I wonder if I should give this to the 11th House, impersonally personal. Meeting place. Groups. Friendship. Not so intimate.
We come here to eat, to stop, to cool off, to sit down, to feel the community around us, safely. It’s different than the chaos of the subway. It’s where we can rest.
Mercury in Cancer trines Neptune in Pisces today so I’m wondering who you’re talking to and what you’re talking about. Do you feel poetic?I think of Mercury trine Neptune as the poet’s aspect, although there are others.
And because this aspect is happening now, in water, it is accessible to all of us. Mercury, words, meet Neptune, inspiration. Mercury, writing, meet Neptune, dreams. Mercury, hands, meet Neptune, the bottle Yes, many famous writers were famous drunks as well.
This aspect is transiting, and Mercury moves fast, so make use of this free, free-flowing good vibration while it lasts Because with Mercury trine Neptune, all your poems are love poems.
