When the New Moons roll around, I always wonder what to write about. The subject of “setting intentions.”
Easy to look at the aspects that day and tell a story.
But what can push us deeper in to the experience so that we wake up transformed. As though the day were a mini Yom Kippur and what I mean by that is that the holiest day on the Jewish calendar is an extreme day of putting aside bodily needs and turning up the volume on soul-search, self-inquiry, and your personal relationship with the Divine.
Now comparing Yom Kippur to a New Moon in Saturn-ruled Capricorn isn’t that far-fetched when you think about it. Saturn rules the dark places. Saturn rules depression. Saturn rules responsibility. Saturn rules dryness and on Yom Kippur we are forbidden food, drink, bathing, even applying lotion or oil, make-up, all the creature comforts. We spend the day in prayer and I don’t mean glory hallelujah prayer. I mean let me live another year prayer. Saturn rules your work/vocation. Saturn rules snow. Saturn rules paralysis. Saturn rules reality. Cold, damp, dark reality.
I am not suggesting such an austere New Moon in Capricorn but I do think the imagery fits. That it would be wise to set your intentions around wising up and thus through wisdom become like a child again. You’ve seen that, right? Capricorns appearing to grow younger as they grow older? I’ve written before how hugging a Capricorn is like hugging a tree branch. They become fragile, stripped bare, after years of pushing themselves so hard.
Capricorn rules time. Capricorn rules gates. Capricorn rules people who work at night. Hmm.
I’m thinking a fun and appropriate New Moon in Capricorn ritual/intention would be not to stay up all night (unless you are working of course) but to go to sleep early and wake up early 🙂 before everyone else, even the birds, and declare your existence to the daystar and that you are more than willing to do what is required.
Find 21 degrees Capricorn in your natal chart for more details on where you should focus your intention. And then get to work 🙂
Yes, I am doing Mini-Moon Readings for this New Moon, astrology and tarot.
